Wireless Hotspots & Laptops at Home
Get FREE unlimited data Wi-Fi and/or a Laptop to use at home with Southern State's Laptop & HotSpot Lending Program designed for students!
The College is offering a limited number of wireless HotSpot devices and/or Laptops to students who do not have at-home access to Internet service or a computer. This program will enable students to "check out" a Wi-Fi HotSpot or a Laptop from the Library for up to one semester at a time - absolutely free. Both the devices and service fees are fully paid for by Southern State.
The program is intended to provide students with access to online resources off-campus and to help support remote learning needs. As a note: The HotSpot devices are filtered to automatically block non-educational resources, and the Laptops are not able to store information directly on the device hard drive.
1. SIGN UP
Students who are registered for the current or upcoming semester at Southern State can request a HotSpot and/or a Laptop by completing the Hotspot/Laptop Reservation Form below.
2. CHECK OUT
Check out a HotSpot device and/or a Laptop from the Library. Students will need to turn in a signed Consent Form (available from the Library) for each device checked out.
3. LOG ON
Bring the device home and follow the instructions enclosed in the HotSpot case to connect your phone, tablet, or computer to access free, unlimited data Wi-Fi.
Who is eligible to participate?
The program is open to students:
- Who are enrolled at Southern State for the current/upcoming semester.
- With no household Internet access, or access to a laptop at the time of sign-up
How long can I keep the device?
The device and service can be borrowed for up to one semester at a time.
How much will it cost?
It is absolutely FREE. There are no fees for the device or service. If the hotspot is lost, damaged or not returned, a fee of up to $200, will be charged to the student's account. If the laptop is lost, damaged or not returned, a fee of up to $500, will be charged to the student's account.
