December 2023
- Southern State joins Choose Ohio First Initiative
- Choose Ohio First is an initiative promoted and administered by the Ohio Department of Higher Education to bolster support for the next generation of Ohio science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) scholars and industry leaders.
- Southern State co-sponsors donation drive for local Veterans
- Each year, the Highland County Veterans Services sponsors a donation drive to provide stockings for local Veterans in assisted living and medical facilities.
- Auditions for SSCC Theatre's "Firebringer, A New Stone Age Musical" will be January 12 and 13
- SSCC Theatre will hold auditions for the spring production of "Firebringer," with music and lyrics by Meredith Stepien and Mark Swiderski, book by Matt Lang, Nick Lang, and Brian Holden, and arranged by Clark Baxtresser and Pierce Siebers.
- Southern State student, Kayla Bradshaw, selected as "Intel Semiconductor Scholarship for Women" recipient
- Southern State's Kayla Bradshaw has been selected as a recipient of the Intel Semiconductor Scholarship for Women.
November 2023
- Southern State students inducted into PTK Honor Society
- The membership of one of higher education's most recognized honor societies, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), was enhanced by the induction of several new members at a November 16 ceremony held on Southern State Community College's Central Campus.
- SSCC Joins Collaboration for Advanced Manufacturing
- Southern State Community College has accepted the invitation to serve as a partner in the Ohio Semiconductor Collaboration Network (OSCN) to be part of a year-long professional development opportunity. Southern State's participation will help to accelerate its advanced manufacturing presence in Ohio.
- Study Abroad with Southern State Community College in 2024
- Southern State, in partnership with EF Study Abroad, is offering current students as well as community members the opportunity to study abroad in the British Isles: England, Ireland, and Wales May 15-25, 2024. Reservations are currently being accepted until February 1, 2024.

- Sara M. Barrere Memorial Trust benefits many at Southern State Community College
- Southern State Community College Foundation has announced 54 students as recipients of the Sara M. Barrere Memorial Trust Scholarship for the 2023-24 academic year.
- Thomas Browning Awarded Barrere Memorial Scholarship at Southern State
- The Southern State Community College Foundation has announced Thomas Browning, of Franklin County, as a recipient of the Sara M. Barrere Memorial Scholarship for the 2023-24 academic year.
- Southern State's Spring Semester begins January 8, 2024
- Southern State offers associate degree programs in the areas of business, computer technology, engineering, education, human and social services, health sciences, and law enforcement, as well as one-year certificate programs in accounting, aviation: general, airframe and powerplant, medical assistant technology, phlebotomy, practical nursing, and real estate.
- Southern State's Spring 2024 Online Scholarship Portal Is Open - Apply Today!
- Applications are being accepted for Spring 2024 scholarship funding at Southern State Community College. Current students, as well as new students, can apply.
- SSCC Board of Trustees to meet October 25
- The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25 on SSCC's Hillsboro Campus, Room 346, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The board will enter into executive session for the purpose of discussing the purchase or sale of property.
- SSCC to hold orientation for free GED preparation classes
- The Adult Opportunity Center (AOC) at Southern State Community College is offering fall orientations for new program enrollees in basic academic skills, GED preparation, and college readiness. These sessions will be held in November at various locations, which include Batavia, Georgetown, Greenfield, Hillsboro, Mount Orab, Washington C.H., West Union, and Wilmington.

- Southern State Joins College Completion Accelerator to Boost Student Outcomes and Completion Rates
- Southern State Community College has joined the Complete College Accelerator, an ambitious nationwide initiative to improve student success and close gaps in college access and completion.
- Southern State's Peace Officer Training Academy earns 100% pass rate
- The Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) at Southern State Community College is pleased to announce that all cadets have passed the State Certified Exam, granting the program a 100% pass rate on the exam portion and a 100% pass rate on the physical fitness assessments.
- Southern State's Certiport Pearson VUE Test Centers offer Industry-Standard Certifications and more for students, community members
- Southern State Community College understands that today's employers are looking for employees who are up-to-date with current technologies and industry-standard certifications. To help fulfill this need, the college currently operates two Certiport® Pearson VUE authorized Test Centers, one at the Central Campus in Hillsboro and one at the Brown County Campus in Mt. Orab.

August 2023
- SSCC announces honors lists for the summer semester
- Southern State Community College has released its President's List and Dean's List for academic excellence for the Summer Semester 2022/23. To be eligible for the President's List, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average while carrying a specific number of academic credit hours. Those who achieve the Dean's List are full-time students who have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0.
- Southern State's Police Academy Commander Presents at National Conference
- Doug Daniels, Commander of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy at Southern State Community College as well as a Special Deputy with the Highland County Sheriff's Office, recently presented at the National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) Annual Conference in Grand Rapids Michigan.
- Southern State Wraps up Patriot Palooza Campaign
- Southern State recently joined forces with many local businesses across Adams, Brown, Clinton, Fayette, and Highland Counties to host a month-long outreach initiative called Patriot Palooza. The event brought awareness to the many programs and opportunities offered by the College as well as the start of Fall Semester, which begins on August 21.

- Southern State Community College Foundation has announced Katelynn Crichton as the recipient of the Katie Bailey Memorial Scholarship for the 2023-24 academic year.

- National Cooperative Bank (NCB) and the Southern State Community College Foundation have announced Jessilyn Gilman, Cae'don Brennan, and Anthony Houck as recipients of the NCB Minority Excellence Scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year.

- Auditions for SSCC Theatre's "The Diviners" will be August 25 and 26
- SSCC Theatre will hold auditions for the fall production of "The Diviners," by Jim Leonard, Jr. Open to community members and students, auditions will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, and at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.
- Southern State awards Elks Scholarship to Elena Pickering-Polstra
- The Hillsboro Elks Lodge and the Southern State Community College Foundation have announced Elena Pickering-Polstra as the 2023 recipient of the Hillsboro Elks Scholarship.
- Southern State announces newest graduate from Ohio Leadership Academy for Student Success
- Meg Storrs, Administrative Assistant for Southern State's Nursing Department, has graduated as a fellow of the newest class of the Ohio Leadership Academy for Student Success.

- The Southern State Community College Foundation has announced Drew Dotson and Audree Howell as the recipients of the Dylan Phillip Wilson and Nathan Paeltz Memorial Scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year.

- Southern State's Adult Opportunity Center hosts recognition celebration for the Aspire and Graduation Alliance Programs
- Area residents who passed the General Education Development (GED) test or completed the Adult High School Workforce Diploma Program were honored recently at the 34th annual Adult Opportunity Center's Recognition celebration at Southern State Community College's Central Campus in Hillsboro.

- Southern State Community College is excited to announce its Summer Enrichment Program for 2023. Designed to foster creativity, learning, and personal growth, these courses are tailored to empower students of all ages during summer break.
- SSCC Board of Trustees to meet May 25
- The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees' Finance Committee is scheduled to meet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 25 on SSCC's Hillsboro Campus.
- SSCC Basic Peace Officers complete training
- The cadets of Southern State Community College's Basic Peace Officer Training Academy were recognized at a special ceremony held on May 16 at the college's Central Campus in Hillsboro.

- The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) Chancellor Randy Gardner has named the latest group of Ohio colleges and universities designated as Collegiate Purple Star campuses for their efforts to support students with military backgrounds. Southern State is part of that group.

- Forty-two graduates of Southern State Community College's Associate Degree Nursing Program were recognized during a May 4 pinning ceremony at the college's Central Campus in Hillsboro.

- Southern State Community College honors three employees who will receive SOCHE Excellence Awards
- The Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) has recognized three Southern State Community College individuals who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship. Those honored with the 2022-23 SOCHE Excellence Awards include Dr. Joshua Montgomery, Dr. Julianne Krebs, and Susan Morris.

- Southern State Community College's Ohio Code Scholar program is excited to host the Grant Imahara Coding Challenge event on May 5th, 2023, at the Central Campus in Hillsboro. March 2023
- Two SSCC Students Named Coca-Cola Academic Team Scholars
- Southern State Community College is pleased to announce that two current SSCC students have been named Coca-Cola Academic Team Scholars. As part of the 2023 Coca-Cola Academic Team, Robert (Alex) Bradshaw, of Martinsville in Clinton County, has been named a Silver Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship. Peyton Magee, of Hillsboro in Highland County, has been named a Bronze Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

- For more than 100 years, the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society has helped millions of high-achieving college students reach their full potential by providing opportunities to develop leadership skills, earn scholarships and explore career paths.
- SSCC Board of Trustees to meet February 27
- The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees' Long-Term Planning/Facilities Committee is scheduled to meet at 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 27 on SSCC's Hillsboro Campus.
- Earn Your Associate Degree in Education through Southern State's Online Pathway
- Southern State Community College now offers a two-year associate degree in education and ALL classes can be taken online. Students enrolling in the program can attend classes from the comfort and convenience of their own homes, all while saving precious dollars on college tuition costs.
