SSCC Board of Trustees to meet November 21- The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, November 21 on SSCC's Central Campus, Room 347, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro for their regular Board meeting. The board will enter into executive session for the purpose of discussing the purchase or sale of property.
Southern State to Host Police Academy Open House on November 21- Southern State is excited to announce an open house showcasing the Law Enforcement Program and Police Academy on Thursday, November 21 from 3:30-5 p.m. This free event will take place at the Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro, and is open to the public.
Southern State's Spring 2025 Online Scholarship Portal Is Open - Apply Today!- Applications are being accepted for Spring 2025 scholarship funding at Southern State Community College. Current students, as well as new students, can apply.
Southern State's Spring Semester begins January 13, 2025- Southern State Community College's Spring Semester begins January 13, 2025, with registration now open to all current and new students.
Get on the road to a high-paying career in only four weeks- The Southern State Truck Driving Academy (TDA) offers a comprehensive training program designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a high-demand field. In just four weeks (or eight weekends), students can earn a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and gear up for a new career.

Student Returns to School to Pursue Online Business Degree- In an inspiring testament to the value of higher education, Shawn Gall, of Hillsboro, decided to return to school to pursue a degree in business, having a passion for learning and a commitment to personal and professional growth.
SSCC Theatre presents 'Radium Girls'- SSCC Theatre presents "Radium Girls," by D.W. Gregory, playing November 8-10 in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday matinee begins at 3:30 p.m.
Southern State Community College announces five students in the Choose Ohio First Initiative- Choose Ohio First is an initiative promoted and administered by the Ohio Department of Higher Education to bolster support for the next generation of Ohio science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) scholars and industry leaders.
Southern State Recognizes Manufacturing Month in Ohio this October- In honor of Ohio's vital role in the manufacturing sector and the future of high-tech industries, Southern State is proud to recognize Manufacturing Month this October. Manufacturing Month is an initiative celebrated nationwide every year by manufacturing leaders seeking to spotlight Ohio's and the nation's manufacturing prowess.
Study Abroad in Italy and Greece with Southern State in 2025- Southern State, in partnership with EF Study Abroad, is offering current students as well as community members the opportunity to study abroad in Italy and Greece May 18-27, 2025. Reservations are currently being accepted until February 1, 2025.

SSCC Awards Dylan Philip Wilson and Nathan Paeltz Memorial Scholarship to Rebeca Roblero-Solis and Alicia Wagner- The Southern State Community College Foundation has announced Rebeca Roblero-Solis and Alicia Wagner as the recipients of the Dylan Philip Wilson and Nathan Paeltz Memorial Scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year.
2024 Fall Semester Experiences Enrollment Increase- Southern State Community College is excited to announce a 5.7% increase in student enrollment for the 2024 fall semester. Gains of 10.5% in College Credit Plus (CCP) enrollment and 0.4% increase in non-CCP hours suggest that the College continues to rely heavily on CCP enrollment while holding non-CCP enrollment steady.
Southern State to Host Healthcare Simulation Open House and Career Fair on September 18- In honor of Healthcare Simulation Week, Southern State will host an open house on Wed., September 18 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive in Hillsboro. This event is free and open to the community.

Southern State Wraps up Another Successful Patriot Palooza Campaign- Southern State recently combined forces with many local businesses across Adams, Brown, Clinton, Fayette, and Highland Counties to host a summer outreach initiative called Patriot Palooza. The event aimed to bring awareness to the many programs and opportunities offered by the College.

Southern State Student Named 2024 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar- Southern State Community College student Marianne Price is one of 210 Phi Theta Kappa members named a 2024 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar. She will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Price is pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing.
SSCC Awards Dr. Sherry and Michael Stout Scholarship to Marianne Price- The Southern State Community College Foundation has announced Marianne Price as the recipient of the Dr. Sherry and Mike Stout Scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year.

SSCC announces honors list for summer semester- Southern State Community College has released its honors list for academic excellence for Summer Semester 23/24. To be eligible for the President's List, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average while carrying a specific number of academic credit hours. Those who achieve the Dean's List are full-time students who have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0.

Auditions for Southern State Community College Theatre's "Radium Girls" will be August 30 and 31- The Theatre Department at Southern State Community College will hold auditions for the fall production of "Radium Girls," by D.W. Gregory in August.

Wilkin Announces Millions for Southern State Community College- State Senator Shane Wilkin (R-Hillsboro) announced that Southern State Community College will receive $2,575,000 from the state capital budget process to establish the Information Technology Center of Excellence.
Southern State's Adult Opportunity Center hosts recognition celebration for the Aspire and Graduation Alliance Programs- Area residents who passed the General Education Development (GED) test or completed the Adult High School Workforce Diploma Program were honored recently at the 35th annual Adult Opportunity Center's Recognition celebration at Southern State Community College's Central Campus in Hillsboro.

Have you ever been in foster or kinship care? Southern State Community College Announces Latest Graduate of Ohio Leadership Academy for Student Success- Bob Krauss, Assistant Professor of Mathematics for Southern State Community College, has graduated as a fellow of the newest class of the Ohio Leadership Academy for Student Success.

Southern State Announces 2024-25 Professional Development Courses - Sign up Today!- Southern State will host a series of professional development courses open to the public. The first session begins July 23, 2024, and registration is required.
Southern State Grad named Rookie of the Year at CMH- Racquel Browder, a 2023 graduate of Southern State's Associate Degree Nursing Program, has been named Nursing Rookie of the Year at Clinton Memorial Hospital (CMH) in Wilmington, Ohio.
Southern State Professor invited to present at International Conference in Romania- Southern State Community College Professor Jeff Wallace has been invited to present at the Appalachian/Carpathian International Mountain Conference in Romania October 15-18, 2024.

Southern State's Fall Semester begins August 26- Southern State Community College's fall semester begins August 26 — registration is currently underway. Southern State offers associate degree programs in the areas of business, computer technology, engineering, education, human and social services, health sciences, and law enforcement, as well as one-year certificate programs in accounting, aviation: general, airframe and powerplant, medical assistant technology, phlebotomy, practical nursing, and real estate.
Southern State Faculty, Staff, and Students Present at Community Colleges of Appalachia Conference held in North Carolina- A team of faculty, staff, and students from Southern State Community College was invited to present at the 31st annual Community Colleges of Appalachia (CCA) Conference held in Asheville, North Carolina.
Southern State Community College honors three employees who will receive SOCHE Excellence Awards- The Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) has recognized three Southern State Community College individuals who have demonstrated excellence in service, teaching, and leadership. Those honored with the 2023-24 SOCHE Excellence Awards include Lauri Bolitho, Charlie Gorman, and Loren O'Cull.
Southern State named best local community college by Cincy Magazine's Family Choice Awards- Southern State Community College has been selected as a winner of the 2024 Family Choice Awards in the following category: Local Community College!

"Othering" will appear in the spring, playing April 4-6, 2025. Both productions will be presented in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

SSCC Theatre Company presents 'Voices of the Earth'- SSCC Theatre Company presents "Voices of the Earth: From Sophocles to Rachel Carson and Beyond," playing on Saturday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.
Southern State to hold youth summer program June 24-27- Southern State Community College is excited to announce Kids Career Encounter, a Summer Enrichment Program taking place June 24-27, 2024. Designed to foster creativity, learning, and personal growth, Kids Career Encounter offers students the chance to learn about different career pathways. Each session will be filled with fun activities that relate to one or more of Southern State's academic programs.
Southern State's ADN program celebrates graduation- Thirty-six graduates of Southern State Community College's Associate Degree Nursing Program were recognized during a May 2 pinning ceremony at the college's Central Campus in Hillsboro.
Southern State Celebrates 48th Commencement Ceremony- Southern State Community College recognized the graduating class of 2024 during its 48th annual commencement ceremony held Friday, May 3 in the College's Patriot Center.
Southern State hosts Ohio Code Scholar event- On Monday, May 6, 2024, Southern State hosted the second annual end-of-year celebration for students, faculty, and staff involved in the Ohio Code Scholar (OCS) project. This event occurred in the Patriot Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and culminated the program's work in southern Ohio, supporting the Ohio Code Scholar (OCS).
Auditions for SSCC Theatre Company's "Voices of the Earth" will be May 22- SSCC Theatre Company will hold auditions for the summer production of "Voices of the Earth: From Sophocles to Rachel Carson and Beyond," compiled by Rush Rehm and Charlie Junkerman of Stanford Repertory Theatre.
Southern State Computer Science Program and COSI team up for STEM event- On May 1, Southern State's Computer Science Department, led by Associate Professor Dr. Joshua Montgomery, organized a STEM MiniDome Celebration Day at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus for students.
Southern State awards Study Abroad Scholarships- In partnership with EF Study Abroad, Southern State will be traveling to the British Isles: England, Ireland, and Wales May 16-26, 2024. Among the travelers are five students who have been awarded the inaugural study abroad scholarship from the Sara M. Barrere Memorial Trust Scholarship Fund, made possible through the College's Foundation.

Career Connections Job and College Fair held at Southern State Community College- On April 24, Southern State's Department of Health Sciences hosted a Career Connections Job Fair and RN-BSN College Fair. Over 50 current and prospective students attended as well as 10 employers and 5 colleges with whom Southern State partners for seamless transfer opportunities.
Four SSCC Students Named to the All-Ohio Academic Team- Southern State Community College is pleased to announce that four current SSCC students have been named to the All-Ohio Academic Team. The students, joining other honorees from Ohio's community college system, will be honored with scholarships for their academic excellence, leadership, and community service. A ceremony to recognize this year's award winners will be held virtually on April 26 as part of Community College Month in Ohio.

Southern State student travels to Arizona to tour Intel Facility- Southern State student Kayla Bradshaw, of Clinton County, is one of 25 women in Ohio to recently be awarded an Intel Semiconductor Scholarship; a scholarship established by Intel Corporation. Of these 25 scholarship recipients, only 8 were selected to visit the Intel Semiconductor Facility in Phoenix, Arizona for a hands-on experience. Bradshaw was one of the 8 students selected to attend.

SSCC registration is underway for the summer & fall semester- Southern State Community College's summer semester begins May 20 and the fall semester begins August 26 – registration is currently underway.
Southern State's Phi Theta Kappa Chapter attends Ohio Region Awards Conference- The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Ohio Region Awards Conference was held on Friday, March 8th and Saturday, March 9th. The event was hosted by Cuyahoga Community College. Southern State's chapter had four officers and one advisor in attendance. In total, 14 chapters were in attendance/represented. This was a time of fellowship, celebration, and business proceedings.

Southern State to offer Court Officer Basic Training- Southern State Community College will be offering a new training opportunity beginning in April. The Court Officer Basic Training Program, to be held at the Greenfield Workforce Development Center, 1300 Jefferson Street in Greenfield, kicks off on April 23, 2024.
SSCC Theatre presents 'Firebringer'- The Theatre Department at Southern State Community College presents "Firebringer," with music and lyrics by Meredith Stepien and Mark Swiderski, book by Matt Lang, Nick Lang, and Brian Holden, and arranged by Clark Baxtresser and Pierce Siebers, playing April 12-14 in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday matinee begins at 3:30 p.m.

Associate of Business degree with Agriculture Concentration offered this Fall at Southern State- Southern State's Associate of Applied Business degree with an agriculture concentration is slated to begin in August. This initiative has been designed with local high schools that offer an agriculture program aligned with College Credit Plus. Students who may be interested in this pathway are encouraged to start planning now.
SSCC scholarship money is available NOW to students majoring in healthcare - APPLY TODAY- Nursing and allied health students at Southern State Community College could reap the benefits from the myriad scholarship opportunities offered through the SSCC Foundation, a tax-exempt organization founded in 1996.

Southern State welcomes new Mental Health Counselor- Southern State Community College is pleased to announce the employment of Elizabeth Crabtree, an Ohio Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, who will serve the student population beginning January 8. This position is funded through a mental health support grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education.

This exciting class, led by Shawn Thomsen, promises an immersive experience in the art of improvisation.
